Superstar of Nail Art Since she was a young child, Amy Wong has always been artistic at heart, even dabbling in street art and graffiti. However, Ms. Wong discovered her calling and threw herself into the Japanese nail painting profession after her sister brought her to a Toronto salon that specialised in the technique. She started sharing her designs on Tumblr in 2014, and soon after, she moved on to Instagram, which is currently her primary online portfolio. Within a short period of time, one of her designs was highlighted on the HelloGiggles blog by Zooey Deschanel and the Instagram page of Nail It! Magazine.
Wong works as an accountant during the day and frequently makes house calls at night to get manicures. Amy intends to enrol in nail technician school this autumn since she is incredibly passionate about pursuing a profession in nail art. She would adore working for celebrities, on movie, television, and photo settings. And her ideal customer? Nicki Minaj “I think I would paint a fantastic abstract negative space design on her nails. Something easy and enjoyable, says Amy. Her favourite trend right now is negative space manicures since they “create such a sleek look to any nail design.”

“I wanted to do something different with the evil eye design and was really inspired by patterns and colours with this design.”
I made the decision to make the snowflakes abstract because I wanted to do something truly unique with them. The concept of having a larger pattern at the base of the nail and a larger design on the tip really appealed to me.
This was likewise the result of an unsuccessful design. I selected orange, blue, yellow, and mint green since I wanted to go for a ’60s atmosphere. I made it stand out by adding the black lines.
“I took inspiration from Kesh, an artist. I choose to model my nail art after her abstract patterns since I think they’re amazing.
“I wanted to create a ’80s vibe, so I added random shapes and used pastel blue and pink with yellow.”
“I think from that design I decided to create something more simple and came up with this after I had another design that didn’t work out well.”
